Jerusalem Biblical Zoo Review

14 Jul

Last year I decided to take a family trip to Israel. Since it was my first time visiting with a young child I wanted to do some fun family activities as well as check out the history. One of the places that was recommended to me over and over again was the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. My initial reaction was to wonder what makes this zoo so amazing? After all, how different could it be from the Bronx Zoo or the San Diego Zoo? As it turns out, this zoo really is worth the trip. As an adult, I really enjoyed my time there and my kid still talks about it today.

 Jerusalem Biblical Zoo Review

So what is it about the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo that makes it so memorable? Well, for my family it started with the views. The zoo was built on a mountain so you get to see panoramic views of Jerusalem. It’s not a view of the Old City but it’s absolutely breath taking. Still Jerusalem of gold but a more modern ancient world feel. Does that make sense? Anyway, it’s such a wonderful treat to see things from a new perspective and this view was the perfect way to do it.

The Biblical Zoo features lots of beautiful animals including zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, elephants and peacocks. We we lucky enough to see a mother peacock and baby peacock cross our path and wonder into another animals territory. It was this experience that my kid still talks about. I have to agree with her, it’s one of my favorite vacation moments too.

There was one big downfall and that was the wolf section. We walked with excitement towards the wolves and found none at all. All they had was a section that they built up to look like a wolf den and had howling noises going on but no wolves at all. If you tell me there are wolves and you make me walk up and down a mountain, please show me some wolves.

All in all though, I totally get why the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo is a must see for families. It’s a great alternative to all of the historical learning and there’s a whole lot to see. My only advice is to take a bottle of ice cold water with you if you go there during the summer.

MooGoo Beauty Products Are Marvelous

11 Jan

Press Sample

I started looking for products that are more natural based for two reasons. First, I have a thyroid condition and my doctor told me to try to live a healthier lifestyle. The second , and just as important as the first is that I have a daughter. Being a girly girl, my kid loves to copy me so she digs into my skin care, hair care and beauty products almost every day. I want to know that whatever I’m using is good and safe for her to use as well.  I recently received a few MooGoo beauty products and they have become household favorites for my family.

In case you have never heard of MooGoo before, let me enlighten you. MooGoo is an Australian company that was inspired by soft cow udders. Yep, I said cow udders. Apparently the creator of the company saw his mom using a product that was made to soften cow udders to soothe her skin condition. The product that she used was very thick though so the search for a softening product that was thinner, easier to apply and naturally based began.

MooGoo Reviews

The fine folks over at MooGoo sent me a few products to review:  Skin Milk Udder Cream, Milk Shampoo, Cream Conditioner, Fresh Cream Deodorant and Cowlick Lip Balm.

MooGoo Skin Milk Udder Cream Review

Company Description- ‘This is original udder cream that started it all. The Skin Milk Udder Cream is the lightest of our creams. It easily soaks in with skin repair ingredients and is non-greasy. Milk Protein is added to help keep the skin supple and elastic. MooGoo’s Skin Milk Udder Cream is used in a number of hospitals in Australia as a moisturiser cream for dry and damaged skin following radiation treatment and chemotherapy.’

My skin is somewhat crazy. When the weather is warm, all it takes for my hands and body to look good is a bit of moisturizer in the morning after my shower. During the winter on the other hand, it gets severely dry, flaky and white.  I got the opportunity to try the MooGoo Skin Milk Udder Cream at a time when New York was somewhat warm and then pretty dang cold. The cream is slightly thick but is very easy to rub onto the skin. It takes about ten seconds for the cream to absorb and the white streaks to disappear. During the warmer days, it leaves my skin feeling smooth for hours. When it gets colder though the smoothness wears out after about three hours and I have to reapply or I look dry and flaky again.

The ingredients that they use to make this amazing cream are: ‘Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Piroctone Olamine, Polysorbate 60 (Food Grade Emulsifier), Allantoin, Coco-Caprylate (Coconut Based Conditioner), Fragrant Oil (Phthalate free), Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.’

The MooGoo Skin Milk Udder Cream costs $10.90 for a 4.2 oz tube. I would recommend it to someone who lives in a warmer climate or someone who doesn’t suffer from the same ridiculously dry skin that I do.

MooGoo Milk Shampoo Review

Company Description- ‘This was first made for a family member who had a scalp so itchy they went to bed with olive oil and cling wrap around their head. It took 6 months of trialling until we banished the cling wrap to the kitchen for good.
Our Scalp Friendly Milk Shampoo has now become one of our most popular products.’

The MooGoo Milk Shampoo comes in a 500 ml bottle that has a built in pump. Basically, the size of the bottle means that if you’re a family of three like mine then you’re going to be all set in the shampoo supply department for a while. The pump makes it easy to get the shampoo out and is kid friendly because all kids love pushing down on a pump. The bottle also has a blue stripe around it which is helpful for those mornings when the smell of coffee hasn’t hit you yet and you’re too tired to read labels.

The shampoo doesn’t have a whole lot of added perfumes which means that it has a very soft fragrance. It has a good consistancy which makes it easy to spread around my hair. If you’re into lather then you’re going to love all of the bubbles that you’re going to see with this shampoo because there’s plenty of it. Once I rinse it out, there’s no residue at all and my hair feels clean.

The ingredients in the Milk Shampoo are:

Aqua, Decyl Glucoside (Glucose Derived Cleanser), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Derived Cleanser), Sodium Cocoyl Sarcosinate (Coconut Derived Cleanser), Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (Coconut Derived Cleanser), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (Canola Derived De-Tangler), Lauryl Glucoside (Glucose Derived Cleanser), Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant Based Emulsifying Wax), Glyceryl Oleate (Natural Ester),Coco Glucoside (Glucose Derived Cleanser), Piroctone Olamine, Allantoin, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Fragrant Oil (Phthalate free).

The cost of the shampoo is $16 which is reasonable when you consider the size of the bottle. You don’t have to use a whole lot to wash your hair so it should last a long time.

MooGoo Cream Conditioner Review

Company Description- ‘Our Scalp Friendly Cream Conditioner uses natural ingredients to moisturise the hair, not silicones to coat the hair with something slippery. It also has ingredients to control the flora of the scalp that sometimes causes scalp problems for people. ‘

Like the shampoo, the MooGoo conditioner comes in a 500 ml bottle that is equipped with an easy to use pump. The conditioner however has a green stripe on it so that you can tell which bottle is the shampoo and which is the conditioner.

If you have a child who’s hair gets tangled constantly then the MooGoo Cream Conditioner is a must! Both my daughter and I have long hair so we normally have to use quite a bit of conditioner to untangle our hair. It doesn’t take a lot of conditioner to get all of the knots out and when I rinse it, my hair is soft, shiny and light. My daughter loves it because I don’t have to drag a brush painfully through her hair after she’s done washing. She loves it so much that I’m seriously considering ordering this stuff by the case.

The ingredients in the Cream Conditioner are:

Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant Emulsifier), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (Canola Based Detangler), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil,Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Piroctone Olamine, Allantoin, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Fragrant (Phthalate free).

The conditioner is also sold for $16 a bottle. Again, it’s well worth the cost when you consider the size of the bottle but more importantly it’s worth not having to see tears.

Fresh Cream Deodorant Review

Company Description- ‘We are proud of developing this unique formula in Australia. Bottled in a 60ml roll-on. We hope you enjoy the peace of mind doing something healthy for your body brings.’

About ten years ago I got hypothyroid and my doctor told me to start using deodorants the do not contain aluminum. Until recently I was using one that I purchase at Whole Foods but the company stopped making the roll on version and their stick version is disastrous. I have to admit that I didn’t expect much from the MooGoo Fresh Cream Deodorant not because I don’t believe in the company but because I’ve been let down with so many other brands.

The Fresh Cream Deodorant is my go to stink fighter from now on. It helps to keep me dry and feeling clean all day long. I’ve tried it in temperatures ranging from 15 degrees to 90 degrees and it never let me down. My only concern is that it can leave white marks on my clothes every now and then so my advice is to be careful when you apply it. I like to dress first and then apply it so it doesn’t get all over my clothes. Once on though, I know that I’m bullet proof and I can’t ask for anything more.

The ingredients that are used to make this deodorant are: ‘Aqua,, Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk Of Magnesia), Xantham Gum (Food Grade Thickener), Backhousia Citriodora Leaf Oil (Aussie Lemon Mytrle), Zea Mays (Corn) Seed Flour, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract..’

A 60 ml roll on of the deodorant sells for $7.80. Due to the fact that it’s a healthy deodorant that has lasting power it’s well worth the price. I’ll be using this product for a long time.

Besides how well they work, I love that MooGoo beauty products don’t contain a lot of garbage such as:

  • Paraffin Oil (Mineral Oil)
  • Synthetic Preservatives such as Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Formaldehyde Donors. (We love Hops, although sometimes you can smell Hops.)
  • PEG’s and Synthetic Penetration enhancers.
  • Sodium Laureth Sulphate or harsh cleansers. (simply because there are gentler, natural alternatives.)

I enjoyed my experience with MooGoo beauty products and am adding them to my shopping list. The only thing is that I have to keep an eye on my supply availability because they ship from the other side of the world. Well worth the wait though.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers

Wedding Day Beauty Tips For The Bride

2 Feb

Your wedding day is one of the most exciting days of your life. Now that you’ve planned out your guest list, purchased your dress and picked out the flowers it’s time to think about your hair and makeup. You’ll find that these beauty tips are meant to get your makeup on and keep it on so that no matter how much you dance it will stay put.

True story- I was introduced to a brilliant guy named Robert who many of my friend used on their wedding day. When it was my turn to get married Robert did a trial for me which I tested by going to the gym and doing one our of kick boxing, one hour of core training and one hour of cardio. I wanted to be sure that on the night of my wedding I wouldn’t have mascara oozing down the side of my face and since Robert is the best there is, it didn’t. Today I want to share the wedding day beauty tips that I learned from my long lost friend along with a few that I learned along the way.

Wedding Day Beauty Tips

Skip The Last Minute Facial

The day before your wedding is not the day that you should be trying a new treatment on your skin. If you want to get a facial then go with a treatment that you’ve had in the past and do it with someone who has already worked on your skin. If there’s something that does interest you and it’s a new treatment that you’ve never tried before then do it a month before your wedding day. If you don’t see a bad reaction then go ahead and have it done two days before your wedding.

Get A Makeup Artist For The Day

No matter what kind of a beauty guru you are, there is a good chance that you may be somewhat nervous on your big day. A professional makeup artist will probably have a much steadier hand than you will that day and he/ she may also come armed with lots and lots of new ideas. Just o be sure that your pro is the one that you want set up a trial at least one month before your wedding date and when you find the perfect look take pictures so that you get exactly what you want on the big day.

Use Primer

The purpose of using primer is to keep your makeup in place. Think about it. You’re going to be dancing. People are going to be kissing and hugging you. Without primer, you’re going to have to do a full touch up within the first couple of hours.

Build Up The Foundation

If you’re an avid reader of my blog then you know that I don’t like to wear foundation. However, one of the best wedding day beauty tips that my ingenious makeup artist, Robert gave me is to most definitely apply foundation on my wedding day. The reason for this is that the flash from the camera tends to wash you out and the foundation helps to keep that from happening.

Get Lippie

There are two things that you should keep in mind about your lipstick. First, try to look for a long lasting lipstick or stain so that you won’t have  to worry about reapplying often. This brings me to my second point. In case you do decide to go for a lipstick that doesn’t last too long, be sure to ask someone that you’re close to, to hold it for you. It could be your maid of honor, mom, life partner- anyone as long as they’re someone who will be nearby for a good portian of the day.

Go Waterproof

Maybe it’s the tears that are falling as you walk down the aisle. Maybe it’s the sweat from eight hours of dancing. Maybe it’s from rubbing your eyes from shame when your cousin tells the story about how you liked to run around naked until the age of eight.Whatever the reason may be for your mascara to try to run you have to go in prepared. Using a waterproof mascara is a must as far as wedding day beauty tips go.

Skip The Conditioner

Another one of the best wedding day beauty tips that I got came from my hair stylist and he told me to not use conditioner for a month before my wedding. At first I thought that he was crazy but it was the best thing that I could have done. If you have very soft hair then your hair is more likely to get ratty- even with all of the bobby pins and hairspray. If you don’t condition your hair for a while it gets a little drier, is easier to style and stays put. By the way, I just want to mention that my stylist was phenomenal so don’t think that I got this advice from a lazy person who has no idea what he’s doing. Charles is a highly demanded and loved stylist in my area so when he tells us to jump we do it.
