NYX Dream Catcher Review And Giveaway

13 Oct

I’m really excited about the NYX Dream Catcher palette and can’t wait to tell you about it. In fact I like this palette so much that at the end of this post you’ll find a giveaway.

Company Description- ‘This limited edition collection of NYX eye shadows will be the answer to your dreams.’

NYX Dream Catcher In Golden Horizons Review

I purchased the NYX Dream Catcher palette in the Golden Horizons shades because I’m a – say it with me – a natural palette loving girl. Now you may be wondering why I need so many natural palettes in my beauty drawer. After all, aren’t all natural shadows the same? In a word, no. There are many different shades and hues of natural colors just like there are many different shades and hues of red, purple and every other color in the rainbow. There are also natural shadows that are sparkly and you know that I’m a sucker for a touch of shimmer.

The NYX Dream Catcher palette contains a total of ten shadows that can be used dry or wet. Four of the colors are in the brown family and have a subtle shimmer when applied wet. There’s one mauve color and a light golden blush color that is very much on the natural side and less of a bling type of gold. Finally, there are three colors that can be used to highlight and accent with and they are a shimmery copper, nudish white and black.

When applied with a dry brush, the Golden Horizons colors are not highly pigmented. However, the subtlety of the dry shadows makes them ideal for creating daytime looks for work or school or if you want a subtle natural look. When you use a wet blush to apply the shadows the pigments of the shadows are intensified and they have a slight sheen and just a touch of a shimmer. I like to use the wet brush for both daytime and nighttime looks. They’re too pretty to pass up.

Honestly these swatches don’t do the colors justice but here they are:

The one thing that I strongly disagree with that the NYX people wrote on their site is the instructions. They recommend that you ‘Apply directly on eyelid using brush.’ I found that applying the NYX Dream Catcher shadows directly to my lids was a surefire way of having to reapply my eye make up within a few hours. Wearing a primer is a must with these shadows. But then again I believe in applying a primer before wearing any shadow because the shadow lasts longer and there will be fewer visible creases. In short, even if it was a completely different eye shadow palette I would recommend you use a primer.

The NYX Dream Catcher palette in Golden Horizon is a fantastic natural palette to add to your collection. The colors would look great on any skin tone and will work great with shadows from other palettes and brands. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the natural look.

I just got a different NYX palette and was not real happy with the shadow quality. I do like the shades in this though.

These shades are nice. I have another one of these in my collection and while the shades are nice… I wasn’t a huge fan. I think that they should reformulate and try again.

Another pretty neutral palette that catches my eye. I routinely use primer… As dry as my skin is, my lids will eat shadow without it. Probably because my eyes are so hooded. *sigh*

It’s a shame about the pigmentation when used with a dry brush but I think it still has lots of versatility.
