Cotz Sunscreen Reviews

12 Aug

One of the things that I worry about when applying sunscreen is the amount of chemicals that they contain. The way I see it, with all the GMOs and chemicals that they use in our food and every day beauty products (shampoo, face wash etc.) I have enough garbage going into m system as it is. At a recent beauty event I was introduced to Cotz sunscreen/, a company that claims that they use 0% synthetic ingredients, preservatives and chemicals sunscreens.

Cotz Sunscreen Reviews

I got to try two of the Cotz sunscreens: Cotz Face and Cotz Pure.

Cotz Face For Natural Skin Tones, SPF 40 Review

Company Description- ‘Cosmetically-elegant for Fair, Medium & Dark skin tones. A Balanced & Natural Mineral Complex with Zinc Oxide & Titanium Dioxide that feels silky & soft and blends translucent, with a sheer matte finish’.

The sunscreen has a slight tint to it so it’s more like a BB cream in the sense that it gives a full coverage look so that it reduces the appearance of sun spots which I have a few of so it’s a never ending battle to hide them. They claim that it helps with wrinkles as well but I thankfully don’t have those yet so you’ll have to see about that yourself if you do. The sunscreen also moisturizes beautifully while feeling weightless so that your face won’t melt off in the sun.

I should mention that this sunscreen is made for people with fair, medium and dark skin which is ok with me because I have an olive skin tone. If you have a fair skin tone, however, you may want to use the other facial sunscreen that they offer because this one may be too dark for you.

The ingredients that they use to make the Cotz Face sunscreen are:

Titanium Dioxide 8% (Sunscreen),  Zinc Oxide 3.8% (Sunscreen),  Alumina, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Iron Oxide (CI 77491), Lauryl PEG/PPG 18/18 Methicone, Methicone, PEG-10 Dimethicone

Cotz Pure,  100% Natural, SPF 30

I used the Cotz pure on my body and found that it absorbed into the skin quickly. It didn’t feel sticky at all and had a light, mate finish which I like because I don’t want a sweaty glow when I’m at the beach. I also like products that allow my skin to breathe because I don’t like feeling weighed down.

Something else that I love about the Pure sunscreen is that it’s water resistant for up to 40 minutes. This is a huge help because my husband is very fair and burns quickly – especially when he’s in the water. However, I made sure that he reapplied the sunscreen regularly and while he got a little pink, he wasn’t his usual lobster red either. As far as I’m concerned this is a huge success!

The ingredients that they used to make the Pure sunscreen are: Titanium Dioxide 4.1% (Sunscreen),  Zinc Oxide 8.4% (Sunscreen), Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordii Oil Copolymer, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Capric/Caprylic Triglyceride, Cellulose Gum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Iron Oxide (CI 77491), Melissa Officinalis (Balm Mint) Extract, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Esters, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Sorbitan Oleate Decylglucoside Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Water

A few more reasons to love the Cotz sunscreens are:

  • Non-Comedogenic, Hypo-Allergenic.
  • Dermatologist recommended
  • Layers invisible under makeup
  • It’s 100% free of chemical sunscreen ingredients which is important because chemical sunscreens absorb UVA-UVB rays into the skin and transform the rays into heat, which can damage the dermis and because the chemicals can sting the eyes.
  • Helps prevent heat build-up in the skin, which can damage the dermis. CōTZ® helps prevent pre-mature skin aging (fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, age spots), uneven skin tone and other serious problems.
  • 100% Free of Oils, Preservatives, Fragrances, Oils, Parabens, PABA, Gluten, Phythalates
  • Gentle enough for all skin types
  • Contains #1 and #2 rated sun protection ingredients for UVA-UVB rays
  • SPF 40 exceeds the level recommended by Skin Cancer experts
  • Provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection
  • Photostable, will not breakdown when exposed to sunlight

Last of all I love that the sunscreens are small enough (1.5 or 3 oz) that you can put them in your carry on when traveling without worrying that they will be taken away. Since the products are free of chemicals, travel friendly and healthy I’m a huge fan and will spend $19.99 on each of them in the future.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Pure sunscreen sounds perfect. I love the idea of the tinted sunscreen but I’m super fair and a one-size-fits-all just never works out for me, lol!

I’ve used Cotz Face, and while I liked it, it was a bit drying on me, unfortunately. Which is why I ended up not buying a second bottle.
