More and more women are going to get mommy makeovers today to help them get rid of that extra little something that won’t go away with diet and exercise after having children. Before you jump into getting anything done however it’s important to know what you’re getting into first. Of course your doctor can go into greater detail with you but here are a few facts to hold you over until you head into a consultation.

What Is A Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover mainly consists of a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or breast lift.

  • Tummy Tuck- After having kids many women find it difficult to get their tummy to go back to being flat. Instead, there is some loose skin hanging over the side and the stomach is hanging out. If a tummy tuck is done properly it will get rid of this skin and leave you with a smooth surface.
  • Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift- Pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss and nursing can all cause the breasts to inflate, deflate, stretch and sag. The combination of the two make it difficult to wear today’s latest trends and may make you feel a little less desirable than before. Once the tummy is sucked in again and the breasts are lifted you will see the leaner profile that you crave.
  • Liposuction- Lipo is another option on the mommy makeover menu. It’s commonly used to remove fat from the thighs and hips.

Will There Be Scars?

Yes because your surgeon will have to cut the skin.

Who Is A Good Candidate For The Mommy Makeover

Anyone who is no longer planning on growing their family.

Can I Have More Kids After Undergoing A Mommy Makeover?

Although you can have more kids after undergoing the procedure you may not get the same results if you choose to do another surgery.

What Can I Expect After The Procedure?

Regardless of which procedure(s) you undergo, there will be some swelling, tenderness and downtime as with any other surgical procedure. In addition to this there may be some bruising and loss of sensation. You should heal in one to four weeks.

Are There Any Risks?

All surgeries have risks. In this case you may develop an infection or fluid collection.

Can My Tummy Come Back After Surgery?

Of course! If you gain weight then your stomach can grow.

How Much Does A Mommy Makeover Cost?

It depends on the doctor and the procedure being performed. Many offices now offer financing.

If you’re planning to do a mommy makeover be sure to go to a plastic surgeon that you trust and have a consultation. Be honest with your physician about what you want and be realistic. Most of all be sure that this is something that you want to do with yourself.

I haven’t reached this stage of my life yet but I’m not against going under the knife if it’s something that will boost my self-esteem by changing my appearance for the better – then why not! :)

I agree. I’m not against doing a surgery that makes you feel good about yourself.

A Mommy Makeover sounds intriguing. I’ve been left with a permanent baby belly after having 7 kids. If only I could afford to have it removed…

7 babies! God bless. I’m sure the workout of running after them will be enough of a workout.

I have always had a “no way” policy on plastic surgery. But if I had the money to do it, after I got Lasik for my eyesight, I would get a tuck of some sort for my upper arms, which, even with weight loss, are flabby! Whether I would have the nerve to do it, that’s a whole other story! I’ll have to wait and see what I think after having kids.

Judy, get to bootcamp. They’ll tone those arms up fast. I think that I can knockout my hubby now.

  4. Destany January 17, 2014 at 2:43 pm #

I would be terrified to do any of that stuff! Plus, the expense. To each their own, as I know a lot of people who have had procedures. They just aren’t for me.

Actually a lot of doctors are letting people finance procedures now. My friend is paying a great surgeon something like $200 a month.

I still have quite a bit of weight to lose after having my 2 kids, but once I do I know that I will want/need surgery. Number 1 is a breast REDUCTION with a lift to bring the gals BACK where they belong and get rid of excess skin!! Thanks for these tips!

Personally, I’m rather afraid of surgery and don’t think I would get a mommy make over. (Heck, I’m already freaking out about my planned c-section in March!) I do understand why some women do though.

While I have areas I would like to improve on myself I don’t want them bad enough to have surgery. It scares me to death and I think it’s a bit vain.

I had my son almost 8 years ago, and although I don’t have the tight and firm body I had before I had him, I actually like my new curves and “squishy” areas. I wouldn’t consider surgery for it. But I know many ladies that would!

I worked in plastic surgery for 5 years and enjoyed being involved and in the OR… this post makes me kind of miss seeing the transformations and how happy our patients were. It’s a long process, but if done right – in the end… it is great for person. Great post. :) I still consider an abdominoplasty and/or tummy tuck after having my children. I never know where life will take me in the next few years – it’s always a possibility.

Ooh. I’m ok with needles and a little blood but I don’t think that I could stand up in a surgery room.

  12. Adin Blankenship January 17, 2014 at 9:41 pm #

I think even with money issue, I still wouldn’t want to go through surgeries. I’ll do it natural workout and exercise, which I know it is challenging, but it is scary to go under the knife, really. Others like it though.

    • Aleya January 20, 2014 at 4:25 pm #

Though I gave birth through C-section, I am always afraid of operation, injection and so on. I have nothing against make over because it’s a way a person make feel better of her self. I must admit I am a little over my desired weight but never did I considering going under the knife. I try to live a healthy lifestyle, do a little exercise, and eat a balance diet. And I stay positive and be happy :)

I think that no mom should be ashamed of the changes her body undergoes after giving birth– of course the body is going to change, you just CREATED and EXPELLED a brand new human being! I’m not against plastic surgery, and every woman is entitled to her own choice, but I think “battle scars” (stretchmarks etc) are beautiful :)
