I was given the opportunity to try out The Elegant Lip Gloss by Kevyn Aucoin. I’m always excited to try out products that are created by makeup artists because I feel that they work with so much makeup they must know how to make products are really exciting and good. Especially an icon like Kevyn Aucoin who’s worked so many famous models and actresses.
The gloss comes in a gorgeous wine colored jar that is easy to open and close. It also comes with a retractable brush for easy application. The brush and jar are small enough that you can slip them into your purse without worrying about the amount of space they’re taking up.
The color that I got to try is called Vesuvian and is described to be a caramel shade. The brush is great and really picks up the gloss and spreads it smoothly and effortlessly. I found that the gloss was super soft so that when I dipped the brush into it, the brush actually sunk in a little (and no my home is not unnaturally warm). However, this didn’t bother me- it just meant that I wouldn’t have to keep going back for more gloss.
The gloss felt super creamy on and while the color really shined it simply didn’t do anything for me. It was just a simple nude that I felt washed me out.
However, I did try mixing it with other colors that I felt were very bright or dark and found that it worked really well at toning them down. Check out how it looked when mixed with the Young Blood lipstick that I reviewed last week.
I think that I would like the Kevyn Aucoin gloss in a different color, but in this case would only recommend the color Vesuvian if you like to blend. Considering that Kevyn is a makeup artist maybe that’s what he had in mind……
Do you like nude glosses? Which brand and shade is your favorite?
