OCC Lip Tar Review
1 May
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, or OCC Cosmetics, is a subject of one of Spontaneous Chick’s previous posts: Lip Tar by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics but because we loved them, we had to head to their NYC location to try their new Spring 2012 line, The Garden. Inspired by the colors of the season, OCC manages to present its vegan cosmetics with a stunning, unique array of color that is unlike anything I’ve seen available to non-professional make-up market. Amongst those colors? A bright yellow, bright green, and a blue.
When it comes to beauty, I have a bit of an obsession with being different. I try to wear unique jewelry, clothes and shoes. It’s a bit harder to do that with make up….a lot of times, color palates are limited and it’s hard to find crazier stuff to experiment with. So – I loved that there were crazy colors here, and I actually tried the blue, and felt a little bit like I was straight out of the movie Avatar. Oddly enough, I barely got any looks askance on the subway – oh New York, where sporting smurf blue lipstick is normal. Although it certainly is a color for a certain “occasion,” it looked kind of awesome and made me feel very different. Another girl (with pale skin) in the store combined the blue and green, and she looked sexy as hell.
The Garden collection also features more wearable colors – beautiful arrays of pinks, browns, and reds. The colors are all very long lasting, and at $13 bucks a pop (plus, a small bottle goes a loooong way, because you have to use very little during application) it’s not a bank breaker.
The only downsides? You have to be careful during application of the lip tars, because they bleed and can stain your teeth. It’s an application which requires more patience than most – but it’s worth it, considering this is the only vegan brand that I know of with such vibrant colors.
The Garden collection also features other items such as shadows and polishes (it’s not just lip tar)!
You can buy OCC products at OCCmakeup.com. However, the store itself is worth a visit if you live in New York – it’s a small but gorgeous space in the Lower East Side, and there is very helpful staff there who can help with application, tips and color ideas. They are located at 174 Ludlow St, (between Stanton St & Houston St, NYC.
This post was written by Beccy, who’s my sister. I wasn’t able to get to the city for the event and since Beccy stole my last batch of OCC lip tars I sent her to cover the event. Thanks for the write up Becs.

Yay I love seeing blue lips!
I can totally see you wearing this color. It would look so good with some of the eye makeup that you do.
I’m going to an openning of a camera ready cosmetics store, and they sell OCC so I’m very very excited to buy them!! They are having 20% coupon!
That’s great. A coupon may be destructive for me though because I’ll just keep buying.
