Bringing together a series of soft colors, intricate details and exquisite antique inspired furniture, French bedroom decor is a surefire way to bring a sense of luxury, romance and serenity to your bedroom. Interested? Here’s how you can do it.

Color- The color story that surrounds French bedroom decor is very soft and subtle. Use French or pastel blues, pinks and soft yellows in combination with white and cream to get a romantic look. Light blue is the most common color used in this style of decorating and is often seen on the walls, carpeting, furniture and decorative pieces. Keep the décor light and airy by using white or cream as your base and the color as an accent color.

Furniture- Usese furniture that is grand in size, a cream or wood color and has an antique look to it. The bed should be the main focus of the room and should have a decorative headboard with cherubs, flowers or another intricate design. Use bedding that is made of silks and lace and don’t forget to cover your bed in lots and lots of fluffy pillows. An armoire is another piece of furniture that is often used in French bedroom décor. Like the bed, the armoire should be decorative and oversized.

Window Treatments- While it’s important to have lots of light in the bedroom it’s also important to have sweeping drapes that hang from the windows. Use sheer fabrics that hang from the ceiling and go all the way down to the floor for a light flowy feel.

Mirrors- An imperative part of French bedroom decor is he use of large mirrors with gold antique like frames to make the room appear larger and to add a touch of elegance. If you can place two mirrors in the room then the bedroom will appear to be much larger in size, however if this is not possible then one mirror will do the job.

Flowers- Painting clumps of roses on your furniture will enhance the look and make your decor appear to be more classically French. This is especially beautiful if your furniture is or appears to be old. You can take this one step further by putting up oil paintings of roses as part of your décor.

Toile- You can use toile to decorate the bedroom if you like. Toile can be used as wallpaper or bedding to give extra detailing to the room. While it’s not something that has to be used to achieve the best possible French bedroom décor it is a nice touch.

Finishing your décor by adding some porcelain figures to the room. Be careful to be tasteful and not go overboard or else your bedroom will be gaudy rather than elegant. Enjoy.
