An Interview With Courtney Of Phyrra Beauty Blog
24 May
A couple of months ago, I visited a beauty site called Phyrra and fell in love with the writers individuality and sense of color. Turns out Courtney (the writer) is not only artistic, she’s also friendly and socially savvy. After seeing her tweet at all hours I had to request an interview so that you could also meet her.
How old were you when purchased your first cosmetic item and what was it?
You know, I don’t really remember. I was probably about 16 when I made my first purchase and I think it wa a Revlon lipstick that was a blackened cherry or blackened burgundy shade.
What’s the best piece of beauty advice you ever got?
Match your foundation to your neck. If everything is too dark, keep looking. I looked for YEARS before I found some foundations that matched me. Meow’s Pampered Puss foundation in Inquisitive Siamese was the first foundation I found that was pale enough for me. Recently, I’ve been wearing NARS Sheer Glow foundation in Siberia, as that works really well too.
What’s in your summer makeup bag?
Lots of blue-based teals, golds, corals and fuchsia.
What’s your favorite product and why?
Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy are my favorite products because they revolutionized eye shadows for me. Without TFSI, my eye shadow is gone in twenty minutes. Pixie Epoxy lets me foil without making a mess, giving me intense color.
Why did you start blogging?
I started researching mineral makeup because I’d given up on department store and drugstore foundations. I couldn’t find anything pale enough for me, so I turned to indie companies, hoping for a solution. In the process of searching, I couldn’t find a lot of reviews on indie companies, so I decided to write about my own experiences and thoughts on the companies.
What advice would you give to a new blogger?
Be polite. Most people in the blogging community are really nice, and being polite goes a long way!
Ok now that you’ve read the interview, get yourselves over to http://phyrra.net/ to get some great beauty tips and don’t forget to follow Courtney on twitter http://twitter.com/#!/phyrra

Great advice! As a fellow pale skinned person, I too have trouble finding the right shade of foundation. I will have to check out NARS asap.
Any advice for good blush shades/ brands for paler skin tones?
Great Interview! Loving Courtney’s unique sense of style! It’s always a pain for me to blend foundation onto my neck (I forget!) and it takes up too much time (i’m low maintenence). I found that using mineral makeup foundation with a Kabuki brush is the quickest and easyest way to cover up and blend my foundation onto my neck. Mineral Makeup has great coverage as well!!! PS- If anyone likes the natural makeup look for lipstick, try Clinique’s “Almost Lipstick” in Black Honey. It will work with mostly every skin tone!
I’m actually going to try out a bunch of Clinique lipsticks this week. Thanks for the heads up.
Courtney’s blog rocks! I love her upbeat attitude and how she reviews not so common beauty products. I usually wake up make coffee and read the blog while I get my morning buzz on.
I also agree with Susan about the Black Honey lipstick,it was recommended to me around 1999 and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Great way to start the day! I’m going to have to check out this black honey for myself.
Thanks for writing.
Great interview! I totally agree about matching your foundation to your neck and I’m super excited to try a couple of the summer colors Courtney mentions
Coral is my all-time summer fave.
Dang those are awesome brows!!
Great article! I’m excited to try out some of the bright colors for summer!
I love Phyrra’s blog – she’s got a great sense of style, and I love the looks she puts together!
