If you’re experiencing bloating, stomach pains and feeling a little gassy, it could be that you need to help your digestive system by eating foods that aid digestion.  Why should you be worried about your digestive system? Well besides the fact that you’ll be more comfortable if your body is working properly, your skin will look a lot better when things are moving along. Here are some tips that we got from Dr. Robin Baradarian, a board certified physician specializing in gastroenterology that can help you learn about foods that help digestion.

Foods With Probiotocs

Probiotics are good bacteria and help to regulate the digestive system. One of the best foods that you can eat that has a high level of probiotics is yogurt. If yogurt isn’t your thing, you can also find probiotics in miso.

Eat More Fiber

Eating fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber is another great way to improve digestion. Some fruits that you should eat include apples, figs, prunes and dried fruit. Vegetables that you should eat include beans and string beans. Nuts and whole grains are good too.

Add Herbs To Your Food

Herbs such as basil, sage, fennel, peppermint and coriander help to digest food by helping you get rid of the toxins in your body.

Eat Healthier

You should eat more fresh fruits, vegetables and fish and less meat, fried food and processed foods. The healthier the food, the easier it is for your body to break it down. Of course, everyone wants to eat something that’s a little more from time to time and that’s ok, but be sure to eat healthy most of the time.

Drink Enough Water

You need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated and your digestive system on track. Drinks such as coffee, tea, juice and soda don’t count as water and don’t do much besides give you a caffeine jolt and extra calories.

Thank you for posting this! I always take peppermint for my upset stomach. However, it’s easy enough to add in basil to dishes.

Personally I love papaya so that’s going to be my go to fruit for a happy tummy. Thanks for commenting!
