My First Stila Eye Shadow Review

18 May

I needed a good black eye shadow for a smokey look and my previous eye shadows weren’t cutting it. I got my hands on a Stila Ebony eye shadow and found that it has a smooth, buttery texture and is extremely easy (good for a make-up ditz like I am) to apply and goes on without any trace of powdery/chunkiness. The color is a true black – not slightly black, not charcoal, and not grey, so it’s perfect for the smokey eye look and appeal. One thing I noticed was that it took two coats of the black for it to become as dark as I wanted. It’s not a very saturated color which is good because you have some power over the depth of the color.
When it comes to darker shadows, it’s scary to think that longevity won’t be there – usually with junky eye shadow I end up looking either like a forest mammal or a train-wreck by the end of the night (ick. We’ve all been there. Or so I like to hope?) Luckily for me, neither of those options happened with the Stila eye shadow! It had a great staying power and was virtually the same color at night when I came to take it off as when I put it on. Just some disclosure though, I did apply some nude concealer to my eyes beforehand to help with staying power, but still, even with that, it stayed longer than most eye shadows even with a base. It lasted about 7 hours or so, even with me dancing and sweating most of the night.
